Project Manager/Estimator

Northern Steel Ltd. is looking for a responsible and highly self-motivated individual who can oversee multiple projects.  As a Project Manager/Estimator, you will play a key role in managing the coordination of assigned projects.  The successful candidate will have similar experience, excellent communication skills and be able to work independently under minimal supervision to complete all required tasks in a timely manner.

Duties

  • Oversee the execution of awarded project contracts to ensure that the schedule and budget are met to the maximum profitability possible, while maintaining customer satisfaction and project quality requirements.
  • Act as main point of client contact for awarded projects.
  • Coordination of shop drawing detailing, material procurement, supplier RFQ’s and price negotiations, material delivery scheduling and follow-up, and communication with both the estimating and production departments.
  • Material sourcing and purchasing.
  • Review incoming RFQ’s and, in conjunction with the Sales Manager, decide on whether to bid or decline.
  • Ensure deadlines are met within the timeframe requested by the potential customers.
  • Based upon project-specific requirements, send quotations out to suppliers and subcontractors to determine current prices for inclusion in estimates.
  • Develop material & labour takeoffs, weight totals and specification reviews for RFQ’s received from clients.
  • Assemble complete and accurate project estimates, including material pricing, subcontract pricing and labor pricing. Complete standard estimating/quotation spreadsheets for review with the project and sales managers.
  • Develop detailed and accurate technical/commercial bid packages for submission to clients.
  • Control the active RFQ’s in the estimating department to ensure deadlines are met, estimates are complete and accurate and that quotations go through NSL’s internal review process (as required) prior to submission.

Qualifications

  • Experience in steel fabrication estimating and material purchasing.
  • Strong knowledge of plate fabrication and welding processes.
  • Expected to have in-depth knowledge and experience in dealing with various steel shapes, alloys, grades and fabrication procedures.
  • Proven working experience in project management.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office and network systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and dependability.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multitask and work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to be resourceful and solve issues that may arise.
  • Exhibits a professional image.
  • Engineering technologist diploma or higher credentials will be considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • 0-5 years experience.
